Barrows
In the townland of Trusklieve in County Clare, a ring barrow sits in the landscape as a quiet remnant of prehistoric funerary practice.
A ring barrow is a burial mound of the Bronze Age type, typically consisting of a low central mound enclosed by a circular ditch and sometimes an outer bank, the whole arrangement marking the interment of one or more individuals in a manner that set them apart, literally and ceremonially, from the surrounding land. These monuments are scattered across Ireland in varying states of preservation, some still clearly legible in the field, others reduced to faint cropmarks or earthen smudges that only reveal themselves from the air or in low winter light.
