This modest ruined structure measures 6.6 metres east to west externally and 4.4 metres north to south, with interior dimensions of 4.85 metres by 2.75 metres. The walls, which survive to a maximum height of 1.52 metres, showcase medieval building techniques with their construction of stone slabs facing a rubble core, all bound together with distinctive yellow sea-sand mortar. Interestingly, the wall junctions are only partially keyed together, suggesting either hasty construction or later modifications to the original structure.

Just five metres north of the church lies a small, flat-topped oval cairn measuring 7.75 metres by 4.4 metres and standing 0.45 metres high. Local tradition holds that this modest mound marks the burial place of a monk, possibly one who served at the church or perhaps even its founder. The cairn’s proximity to the church and its careful construction suggest it held special significance for the religious community that once worshipped here.

The site sits in what is now fairly good pasture land, offering glimpses into Donegal’s rich ecclesiastical heritage. Historical records from 1971 mention a lost cross from nearby Royard that may have been associated with this religious site, though no trace of it has been found despite searches. The church and cairn together paint a picture of early medieval monastic life in this corner of Ireland, where small religious communities established themselves in the landscape, leaving behind these enduring stone witnesses to their faith and daily lives.
