Though the site appears unmarked on the first edition Ordnance Survey 6-inch map, both the second and third editions clearly indicate its presence, suggesting it was still visible or at least remembered well into the 19th century. Today, however, no trace of these structures remains above ground.

The disappearance of this religious site appears to have been anything but natural decay. According to historical records from 1885-86, the construction of the railway line likely destroyed whatever remained of the church and its associated burial ground. This wasn’t uncommon during Ireland’s railway boom; many archaeological sites fell victim to the Victorian era’s push for modernisation and improved transport links across the country.

The site’s location on marshy ground near the river would have been typical for early Irish churches, which often occupied liminal spaces between water and dry land, places that held spiritual significance in both pre-Christian and Christian traditions. While the physical remains have vanished, the site remains catalogued in the Archaeological Survey of County Donegal, preserving its memory as part of the county’s rich ecclesiastical heritage that spans from the Mesolithic period through to the 17th century.
