Enclosure, Ballysallagh, Co. Clare

In the townland of Ballysallagh in County Clare, there is a recorded archaeological enclosure whose details remain, for now, largely inaccessible to the public.

Enclosures of this kind are among the most common yet least understood monument types in the Irish landscape. The term covers a broad range of features, from ringforts, which were enclosed farmsteads typically dating to the early medieval period, to possible ceremonial or funerary sites of much greater antiquity. Without further detail, Ballysallagh's enclosure sits quietly in that ambiguity, a shape in the ground that has been noticed and logged but not yet fully interpreted for a wider audience.
