The site consists of a roughly circular enclosure measuring about 45 metres across, defined by a substantial raised platform that rises approximately 8 metres above the surrounding landscape. This elevated position would have provided commanding views over the countryside, making it an ideal location for defensive purposes or as a place of significance for the communities who once inhabited this region.

The enclosure’s substantial earthworks suggest considerable effort went into its construction, likely requiring organised labour from the local population. Whilst the exact date and purpose of the site remain uncertain, similar hilltop enclosures across Ireland have been associated with various functions including defensive settlements, ceremonial sites, or centres of local power during the Iron Age and earlier periods. The circular form and elevated platform are characteristic features of these ancient monuments, which dot the Irish landscape from the Bronze Age through to the early medieval period.
