The structure, measuring approximately 4.2 metres northwest to southeast and 3.2 metres northeast to southwest, is defined by a low stone bank that’s now covered in sod and stands just 30 centimetres high. A gap about 1.5 metres wide on the southeastern side likely served as the entrance to this modest dwelling. The surrounding landscape offers spectacular views across the hilly limestone terrain from east to southwest, though modern commercial quarry pits now border the northern and eastern edges of the field.

This isn’t an isolated find; another possible hut site lies just 15 metres to the north, whilst an enclosure can be found roughly 60 metres to the north-northwest. Together, these features suggest this ridge was once home to a small settlement, taking advantage of the elevated position and natural rock outcroppings. The structures are so subtle they’re easily missed by casual observers, their stone walls having settled into the landscape over centuries.

The site represents the kind of modest rural dwelling that once dotted the Irish countryside, built by communities who worked the land and quarried the limestone that characterises this part of Donegal. Today, these faint traces in the grass serve as quiet reminders of the people who once called this windswept ridge home, their lives now as weathered and indistinct as the stone walls they left behind.
