What remains today is a single chamber, partially exposed where bog cutting has carved away the surrounding peat like a natural archaeological excavation. The structure emerges from the hillside mound, its stones weathered by millennia of Atlantic winds and rain.

Unfortunately, time and the elements have not been kind to this monument. The chamber has been dug out at some point in its long history, leaving archaeologists with insufficient evidence to properly classify what type of megalithic tomb it once was. It could have been a court tomb, portal tomb, or passage tomb; each type was common in Donegal during the Neolithic period when such monuments were built between 4000 and 2500 BCE. The bog itself, which has both preserved and obscured the site, tells its own story of environmental change since the tomb builders first chose this spot.

Despite its deteriorated state, the site remains significant as part of Donegal’s rich prehistoric landscape. The county boasts over 60 recorded megalithic tombs, each marking places where Neolithic communities buried their dead and perhaps conducted rituals we can only speculate about today. This particular tomb, documented by archaeologist Caimin O’Brien in 2010, stands as a reminder that Ireland’s bogs and hillsides still hold secrets from our distant ancestors, even when those secrets come to us incomplete and weatherworn.
