The monument consists of a narrow gallery about 5 metres long, oriented roughly south-southwest to north-northeast, with its floor now lying somewhat below the surrounding ground level. A perpendicular stone stands at the western end of the gallery, possibly serving as a facade stone, which has led some archaeologists to suggest this might be the remains of a wedge tomb.

The gallery’s construction features six stones along each side, though centuries of bog growth and shifting earth have left many displaced or only partially visible. The stones vary in height from just 10cm to about 55cm, with some leaning outward and others barely breaking the surface of the bog. A large slab measuring 1.3m by 1.15m covers the western end of the gallery, though its placement on clearly displaced supporting stones raises doubts about whether it’s in its original position. Thomas Fagan, visiting the site in 1848, noted that a massive oblong flagstone that once rested on the gallery sides had already been toppled long before his arrival.

Historical records suggest the monument may have been more substantial in the past; an Ordnance Survey Name Book from 1835 recorded the grave as being 21 feet long, considerably longer than its current 5 metre length. While the exact classification of this tomb remains uncertain due to its deteriorated state, it stands as a testament to the prehistoric peoples who once inhabited these remote Donegal hills, choosing this windswept spot between mountains to commemorate their dead.
