The monument offers sweeping views south and southwest towards Glen Bay, though the nearby hills restrict visibility to the north and northeast. Built within a substantial oval cairn measuring 60.5 metres long by 19.5 metres wide, this Neolithic structure represents one of Ireland’s more complex court tomb designs, featuring a long oval central court with multiple chambers arranged around it.

The tomb’s distinctive layout includes two main galleries opening from opposite ends of the 20.5 metre long court, aligned roughly northeast to southwest, with additional subsidiary chambers positioned along the court’s sides; two to the south and at least one, possibly two, to the north. The cairn itself tells a story of both preservation and decay, with its western half surviving remarkably well, rising to 1.5 metres in height amongst overgrown stones, whilst the eastern portion has been largely removed over the millennia, leaving only grass covered remnants barely half a metre high. A sunken trackway, likely created long after the tomb’s construction, now bisects the court and separates these two distinct halves of the monument.

The northeastern gallery exemplifies the sophisticated construction techniques employed by the tomb’s builders, stretching approximately 5 metres in length and divided by stone jambs into two distinct chambers. Standing orthostats form the chamber walls, with the front chamber measuring 2 metres long by 2.2 metres wide internally, whilst fallen lintels and displaced roofstones hint at the monument’s original grandeur. Throughout the court, various orthostats of differing heights mark the positions of former walls and entrances, including what appears to be an entrance passage midway along the court’s southern side, though many stones have fallen or disappeared entirely, leaving archaeologists to piece together the monument’s original configuration from the surviving elements.
