What remains visible today is a partially preserved gallery structure, measuring 2.7 metres in length and demonstrating the characteristic wedge shape that gives these monuments their name; it narrows from 1.6 metres wide at the western end to just 0.8 metres at the eastern terminus. The gallery, aligned southwest to northeast, consists of long and short orthostats (upright stones) on each side, with a single roofstone still in place. Notably, this roofstone has been positioned lengthwise along the gallery rather than across it, a feature that may hold particular significance when compared to nearby megalithic structures.

The construction shows careful architectural planning typical of Bronze Age burial monuments. An inclined transverse slab set between the western ends of the gallery appears to function as a septal stone, possibly dividing the space into a portico and main chamber, though much of the original structure has been lost to time. The surviving orthostats decrease in height from west to east, with the tallest reaching 0.95 metres, whilst fragments of outer walling and possible doubled gallery walls hint at the tomb’s more complex original design. Intriguingly, the antiquarian Caesar Otway claimed in 1827 that the tomb measured 20 feet (approximately 6.1 metres) in length, suggesting that considerably more of the structure was visible in the early 19th century than survives today.

Despite centuries of exposure to the elements and the encroaching bog, the tomb retains enough of its form to offer valuable insights into prehistoric burial practices in northwest Ireland. No traces of the cairn that would have originally covered the structure remain on the bog’s surface, leaving the skeletal stone framework exposed. The monument forms part of a broader megalithic landscape in the area, with its specific construction details and orientation providing archaeologists with important comparative data for understanding the distribution and evolution of wedge tomb architecture across Ireland during the Bronze Age.
