The monument consists of a slightly raised platform measuring 21 metres north to south and 18 metres east to west, surrounded by the remains of an earthen bank and an outer ditch, or fosse. Though not recorded on historical Ordnance Survey maps, the site was formally surveyed by the Archaeological Survey of Ireland in 2000, revealing its distinctive defensive features despite centuries of weathering.

The enclosing bank, now reduced to little more than a low scarp in places, originally stood about 4.3 metres wide with a modest height of around 25 centimetres on the interior side. The external fosse, which once provided additional defence, survives best along the western and northern sides where it measures up to 4.6 metres in total width with a shallow depth of just 15 centimetres. Curiously, no obvious entrance has been identified, leaving archaeologists to wonder how the site’s inhabitants accessed their enclosed space. The interior remains level and dry, offering few clues to any structures that might have stood within.

The surrounding landscape holds further archaeological interest, with irregular undulations nearby possibly representing the remains of an associated field system. Modern technology has helped document the site’s survival; it appears clearly as a rectangular earthwork on Digital Globe orthophotos from 2011 to 2013 and Google Earth imagery from 2015. While the monument’s exact purpose and date remain uncertain, such moated sites typically date to the Anglo-Norman period and often marked the homes of minor landowners or served as administrative centres for rural estates.
