First recorded on the 1839 Ordnance Survey six-inch map, this defensive enclosure measures approximately 60 metres from northwest to southeast and 50 metres from northeast to southwest. The site occupies a subtle hollow on a south-facing slope, with a small stream rising about 150 metres to the east, its headwaters flowing northward through the landscape.

Today, nothing of this ancient fortification is visible above ground; the pasture that covers the site shows no obvious trace of the banks and ditches that once defined this medieval dwelling. The rectangular shape and defensive moat would have been typical features of Anglo-Norman settlement in Ireland, representing a fortified farmstead where a family of some local importance would have lived, farmed, and defended their holdings during the turbulent medieval period.

The site was catalogued by Barry in 1977 as WX 104 in his survey of moated sites, and later included in the Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford published in 1996. These moated sites, scattered across the Irish countryside, offer glimpses into patterns of medieval settlement and land use, even when, as at Rathduff, time and agriculture have erased their physical presence from the visible landscape.
