It is not especially large, rising only about 1.2 metres in height, with a base measuring roughly 15 metres on its longer axis and a flattened top of around 7 by 6 metres. That flat summit is one of its more quietly puzzling features, distinguishing it from the rounded profile you might expect of a natural glacial deposit, and nudging it into the category of something deliberate, something made.

The mound was first identified and recorded by Paul Duffy, and what the ground itself offers by way of clues is limited but suggestive. On its western side, the turf has been disturbed or poached, and through that damage granite stones are visible just beneath the surface. Crucially, there is no evidence of burning at or around those stones, which matters because burning is often a diagnostic marker for certain prehistoric monument types, particularly burnt mounds, known in Irish archaeology as fulachta fiadh, which are the residue of ancient cooking or heating processes involving fire-cracked stone and water-filled troughs. The absence of that signature here leaves the mound's function genuinely open. It could be a burial monument of some kind, a platform with a now-vanished structure, or something else entirely that the surface evidence alone cannot resolve. Wicklow's uplands are scattered with prehistoric remains of many kinds, and the granite geology of the region makes the presence of stone just below the turf unremarkable in itself. What is less ordinary is a mound of this shape and deliberate construction sitting quietly on a slope, unexcavated and unexplained.
