In July 1989, an aerial survey captured what soil science calls a cropmark, the phenomenon by which buried ditches and pits cause the vegetation above them to grow differently, producing faint variations in colour and height that, from ground level, are invisible but from altitude resolve into clear geometry. What the photograph revealed was the fosse, or encircling ditch, of a roughly circular enclosure about twenty metres in diameter, with what appears to be an entrance gap oriented to the northeast.

Ring-ditches of this kind are typically the eroded remnants of prehistoric burial or ceremonial monuments, the ditches that once surrounded a central mound or grave, long since ploughed flat. The interior of this one shows a small off-centre macula, a dark stain in the soil that may indicate a pit, a post-hole, or some other disturbance at the heart of the original structure. What gives the site a broader sense of context is what surrounds it. Two parallel curvilinear cropmarks skirt the southern end of the enclosure and appear to continue northwest into the adjacent field, suggesting the route of an ancient trackway. A second circular enclosure lies roughly a hundred and twenty metres to the north. Both features sit within the traces of a relict field system, meaning the underlying landscape preserves the faint skeleton of an organised agricultural layout that has otherwise vanished from the surface entirely. Taken together, the cropmarks at Killuragh suggest not an isolated monument but a small node within a much older, more populated pattern of land use.
