The stone fortification, roughly oval in plan, measures approximately 20 metres north to south and 14 metres east to west. Its defensive wall, built along the top edge of the rocky platform on the western side, reaches about 2.5 metres in width, though centuries of weathering have reduced its height to no more than half a metre in most places.

The wall circuit can still be traced from the northwest around to just east of the southern point, where a stone set perpendicular to the wall line likely marks the western side of the original entrance; a gap of about one metre is visible here. Today, a modern field wall runs along the eastern side of the site, following the steep edge of the rocky platform. The landscape surrounding the cashel is characterised by extensive rock outcrop and rough grazing, whilst the lower ground to the north provides better quality agricultural land.

At the centre of the enclosed area, the low remains of what appears to be a dwelling can be identified by grassed-over stone walls. This structure, catalogued separately as a ‘hut’, survives as foundations no more than 30 centimetres high and between 2 to 3 metres wide. The cashel represents a typical example of these stone-built fortified homesteads that dotted the Irish landscape, particularly in areas where suitable building stone was readily available from the natural bedrock.
