The site is roughly 32 metres across, defined by a raised inner bank standing about one and a half metres high, then a fosse, or ditch, dug approximately 0.85 metres deep, and beyond that a lower outer bank, now considerably worn in places. That concentric arrangement, bank, ditch, bank, is the defining characteristic of a rath, the most common type of ringfort found across Ireland, and one that was typically used as an enclosed farmstead during the early medieval period, roughly 500 to 1200 AD. What lifts this particular example slightly out of the ordinary is a single line of stones protruding from the top of the inner bank on the southern side, the remains of a wall that once sat above the earthwork and would have reinforced the enclosure's boundary.

More intriguing still is a feature noted in the interior: a possible souterrain. Souterrains are underground passages or chambers, usually constructed from stone, that were built beneath or adjacent to ringforts during the early medieval period and are thought to have served as places of refuge, cool storage for dairy produce, or both. The association between souterrains and raths is well established across Munster and beyond, and their presence often suggests a site of some domestic significance rather than a purely symbolic or defensive one. The outer bank here has suffered considerable erosion over time, which is common on sites that have remained in agricultural use, and the overall impression is of a monument that has been gradually absorbed into the working landscape without ever quite disappearing from it.
