The circular fortification, measuring approximately 150 metres across, is defined by substantial earthen banks that still stand up to 1.8 metres high on the exterior in some places. Whilst land reclamation before 1842 removed sections of the enclosure to the east, much of the defensive structure remains visible, particularly from the air where the break in vegetation clearly marks out the ancient boundaries.

The western and northwestern sections of the fort reveal fascinating construction details, with the earthen bank sitting atop a natural break in the slope and incorporating large boulders piled strategically for additional defence. Modern field fences now follow parts of the original bank’s line, though they may sit slightly inside where the ancient earthworks once stood. The overgrown interior rises towards the hilltop, and careful observation reveals rectangular depressions near the northern bank, possibly the remains of structures or storage pits measuring roughly 1.2 by 0.8 metres.

Archaeological surveys have identified evidence of a possible second defensive bank approximately 50 metres outside the main enclosure, traceable from south to north and now marked by field boundaries. Four radial fields connect these inner and outer defensive lines, with aerial photography revealing a fifth radial feature to the southeast defined by vegetation changes, though this hasn’t been located at ground level. Three distinct patches of nettles in the northern field between the enclosures mark areas of archaeological interest, appearing as dark patches in aerial photographs and suggesting past human activity or structures beneath.
