This roughly oval-shaped fortification, stretching about 700 metres from north-northeast to south-southwest and 350 metres from east to west, was enclosed by two substantial earth-and-stone banks. The inner rampart, measuring 3.8 metres wide and reaching heights of up to 1.5 metres, was cleverly constructed using material from a series of quarry hollows that now form an inner fosse along portions of the defences. A second, parallel rampart runs along the eastern and southern sections, making use of a natural limestone terrace before turning sharply downhill at the northeast corner.

The interior of this impressive hillfort reveals extensive evidence of ancient occupation, particularly along the sheltered eastern half where approximately 30 hut sites cluster together, possibly representing a Neolithic settlement. Two structures that may be passage tombs stand about 120 metres apart at the northern end of the plateau, whilst a D-shaped enclosure abuts the inner bank on the eastern side. Additional signs of habitation can be found in various scoops and hollows scattered across the south and southwest portions of the site.

The plateau itself consists of a series of natural limestone terraces that decline gradually from the centre outwards, ending at an abrupt break of slope that marks the outer edge. This natural topography was skilfully incorporated into the defensive design, with builders taking advantage of the terrain to create a formidable fortification. Today, portions of the eastern inner bank are topped by a later field boundary wall, a testament to the site’s continued use and modification through the centuries.
