This oval enclosure, measuring 23 metres across its interior, was once defined by a substantial stone wall that has largely collapsed over the centuries. The best-preserved section stands on the northwest side, where both the inner and outer faces of the wall are still visible; this stretch measures 1.8 metres wide and rises up to a metre in height, offering a glimpse of the structure’s original defensive capabilities.

The interior of the cashel slopes noticeably from north to south, with a gentler gradient running east to west, suggesting careful consideration of the natural topography when it was constructed. A depression in the southern part of the enclosure may mark the location of an ancient well, which would have been essential for any community living within these walls. The site’s strategic position would have once commanded impressive views across the landscape, though woodland growth has since obscured much of the vista.

The surrounding landscape provides clues about why this location was chosen for settlement. Rock outcrops are abundant, including a prominent ridge to the north that would have offered additional protection and possibly building materials. The presence of good grazing land on the lower ground both north and south of the cashel suggests this was prime agricultural territory, making it an ideal spot for a defended farmstead during the early medieval period when such ringforts were commonly built throughout Ireland.
