A cist is a stone burial chamber, typically dating from the Bronze Age, where our ancestors laid their dead to rest alongside precious grave goods. These small, box-like structures were often built from stone slabs and covered with earth, creating burial mounds that have survived for thousands of years across the Irish landscape.

The Altaghaderry cist represents one of many such monuments scattered throughout Donegal, a county particularly rich in prehistoric remains.
