The tomb sits atop a large circular mound, approximately 23 metres in diameter and 1.5 metres high, now somewhat obscured by tree plantings and modern fencing. Scattered across the mound’s surface are numerous quartz fragments, with several quartz kerbstones still visible around its perimeter, hinting at what must have been an impressive white gleaming structure when first constructed thousands of years ago.

The tomb itself stretches 7 metres in total length, oriented roughly west to east, with its entrance facing westward. Though the passage has largely deteriorated, it originally extended at least 3 metres into the mound. The interior reveals the classic cruciform design; a northern transept branches off at right angles from the passage’s inner end, measuring 1.1 metres long and narrowing from front to back, whilst still covered by what appears to be its original, if slightly displaced, roofstone. The southern transept sits slightly askew to the monument’s main axis, measuring 1.2 metres long, whilst the end chamber forms the most substantial space at 2.4 metres long and 1.5 metres wide, constructed with notably taller stones than those used in the side chambers.

Archaeological testing carried out in 2005, ahead of agricultural development just metres from the tomb, revealed little of archaeological significance beyond a single worked flint in the topsoil and some modern animal remains from historic livestock burials. The site forms part of the larger Kilmonaster Passage Tomb cemetery complex, a concentration of megalithic monuments that mark this area as a significant ritual landscape in prehistoric Donegal, where communities gathered to honour their dead and perhaps observe celestial events through the carefully aligned passages of these ancient structures.
