This circular foundation, measuring 5.5 metres across, represents the remains of what was once a dwelling, though its exact age remains a mystery. The site occupies a slightly elevated position in terrain characterised by exposed seams of limestone bedrock that break through the pastoral landscape.

What remains of the original structure is subtle but telling; a low perimeter wall, now largely reclaimed by nature, forms a ring of moss and grass covered stones. The wall remnants, roughly 0.7 metres wide and standing just 0.4 metres high on the exterior, are barely discernible save for the occasional large stone that pokes through the verdant covering. The careful observer might notice how these weathered blocks follow the circular pattern of the original foundation, marking out the footprint of this long abandoned home.

The immediate surroundings offer further clues to the site’s ancient character. Irregular chunks of limestone jut from the ground to the east and south of the house site, some clearly part of the natural bedrock, whilst others may represent collapsed portions of the structure or deliberately placed stones. This intermingling of natural geology and human construction speaks to how Ireland’s rural inhabitants once built in harmony with their landscape, using the readily available stone to create homes that have endured, if only as traces, through countless generations.
