This rectangular earthwork, measuring approximately 55 metres from northeast to southwest and 38 metres from northwest to southeast, sits within undulating pastureland. The site is defined by a low earthen bank that varies in construction around its perimeter; whilst most sections maintain a width of 8.7 metres with an internal height of 0.41 metres and external height of 1.42 metres, the southeast side tells a different story. Here, the bank appears considerably more substantial, rising 0.55 metres on the interior and an impressive 2.5 metres on the exterior, likely augmented with material excavated from the external fosse, or defensive ditch, that runs alongside it.

The interior of the enclosure reveals subtle undulations that may indicate the foundations of medieval buildings, though centuries of weathering and agricultural use have softened these features. The monument’s current condition reflects both its age and ongoing interaction with the landscape; the southwest quadrant has become heavily overgrown with scrub, whilst trees have established themselves around the perimeter. Modern farming has also left its mark, particularly at the eastern end of the northeast side where repeated access by farm machinery has reduced the bank to a mere scarp about 4.5 metres wide.

Today, a field boundary follows the outer edge of the fosse along the southeast side, demonstrating how this ancient defensive structure has been incorporated into the modern agricultural landscape. Despite these changes, the moated site at Arbourhill remains a significant example of medieval earthwork construction, its banks and ditches still clearly visible after centuries of exposure to the elements and human activity.
