The castle overlooks Lough Nacarrick, just 60 metres to the west, and from this elevated position you can see for miles in every direction. The site forms part of a broader historical landscape, with an earthwork 320 metres to the north and a church with its accompanying graveyard 240 metres to the southwest.

What remains today is a rectangular structure measuring roughly 13.7 by 16.6 metres, oriented east to west. The low, grass-covered stone walls that define the building appear to have rounded corners; a distinctive architectural feature. At the northwest corner, where the stone facing has tumbled away, you can still see the original mortared wall construction beneath, offering a rare look at the building techniques employed by its medieval builders.

The site has yielded at least one significant artefact over the years. A carved stone head that had been incorporated into the wall of an old barn house to the south was removed and is now preserved in the National Museum of Ireland. This discovery, documented during an Archaeological Survey of Ireland field report in March 1980, hints at the artistic and cultural significance of the castle during its heyday. The structure’s local names, particularly ‘The Court’, suggest it may have served an administrative or judicial function in addition to its defensive role.
