The Story of Co. Limerick

Set on the broad estuary of the Shannon, Limerick, Luimneach, began as a Viking settlement and grew into a walled Norman city guarded by King John’s Castle. It was here, in 1691, that the Treaty of Limerick ended the Williamite war; just south of the city, Lough Gur preserves one of Ireland’s richest prehistoric landscapes.
