The site takes its name from St. Bricne, who is believed to be buried somewhere within this old calvary. The oval enclosure measures 31 metres from north-northeast to south-southwest and 21 metres from west-northwest to east-southeast, forming a modest but distinct sacred space that has endured through centuries of Irish history.

The burial ground’s most notable architectural feature is its stone facing along the southeastern side, which still stands up to a metre high despite the passage of time. The rest of the perimeter wall and portions of the interior have become less distinct, now obscured beneath heaps of field stones that have accumulated over the generations. These stone piles likely represent both the gradual collapse of the original structure and the practical clearing of the surrounding fields by local farmers who deposited unwanted stones within the old enclosure.

Today, the site occupies grazing land just 100 metres from the waters of Mulroy Bay to the east, maintaining its connection to the landscape that has sustained local communities for millennia. While it may lack the grandeur of more famous Irish ecclesiastical sites, this humble calvary represents the type of small, rural burial ground that once dotted the countryside, serving as focal points for local devotion and remembrance. Its survival, even in this partially ruined state, offers a tangible link to the early Christian period in Donegal and the communities who once gathered here to honour their dead and their local saint.
