The site consists of a circular area measuring approximately 28 metres east to west and 26 metres north to south, defined by a substantial earthen bank that rises to 1.55 metres on its exterior side. A defensive ditch, or fosse, surrounds much of the structure; whilst waterlogged on the eastern side, it has been partially filled in along the southern and western sections. The main entrance appears at the south-south-east, where centuries of use have left it deeply eroded to a width of 3.5 metres.

The fortification’s complexity becomes apparent in its multiple defensive layers. Beyond the inner bank and fosse lies an outer bank, though time and agricultural activity have taken their toll; the southern and western sections show considerable disturbance, whilst the western to eastern portion has been incorporated into a densely overgrown townland boundary. A berm, varying in width from 10 to 12 metres, separates these defensive rings. This intermediate space has been modified by later field boundaries and a particularly deep drainage ditch on the south-south-west side. The western portion of the berm features stone facing on its exterior bank, suggesting either enhanced defensive measures or later modifications to the original earthwork.

Historical mapping provides intriguing clues about the site’s evolution. The 1840 Ordnance Survey six-inch map depicts what may have been a continuation of the outer bank running from the north-west to the east, though this feature has since been levelled. An outer fosse, best preserved on the western and north-western sides, may have been repurposed as agricultural drainage on the south-south-west. A possible secondary entrance at the south-west, measuring 4.5 metres wide, could be a modern addition for farm access. The interior of the ringwork maintains a pronounced slope facing south-south-east, a characteristic feature that would have provided both drainage and defensive advantages to this medieval fortification.
