The remains, measuring 5 metres by 3.5 metres and rising just half a metre high, contain fragments of mortar still clinging to some stones, suggesting this was once a constructed building rather than a natural formation. The site sits partially enclosed by field walls; a straight wall bounds it to the east whilst a curving wall sweeps around its southern and western edges.

What makes this location particularly intriguing is the evidence of an even older structure beneath. A 12-metre stretch of small basal stones curves northward beyond the existing field wall, possibly representing the foundations of an earlier enclosure. If these fragments once formed a complete circle, as archaeologists suspect, the original structure would have measured approximately 40 metres in diameter, a substantial size that hints at the site’s former importance. The interior and surrounding land slope naturally from north to south and east to west, following the contours of the landscape.

Today, the site lies concealed beneath overgrowth and rock outcrops, making it easy to miss unless you know where to look. The Archaeological Survey of County Donegal first documented these remains in 1983, noting their appearance on 19th-century Ordnance Survey maps where they were already marked as ancient ruins. Whether this was truly a church, an earlier religious enclosure, or served some other purpose in medieval Donegal remains uncertain; the stones keep their secrets well.
