This Georgian residence presents a refined example of late 18th-century Irish domestic architecture, with its three-bay, two-storey design rising above a basement level. The main house features a hipped slate roof topped with red brick chimney stacks, whilst its roughcast rendered walls display a symmetrical arrangement of sash windows; two-over-two panes on the first floor and four-over-two panes below. The entrance makes a particularly elegant statement with its segmental-headed doorway, complete with a spoked fanlight crowning double-leaf timber battened doors flanked by sidelights.
The property extends beyond the main house to include a four-bay, two-storey block at the rear and a lean-to addition on the western side. The estate’s working character is evident in its collection of outbuildings, which showcase the robust limestone construction typical of rural Irish architecture. To the west stands a square-plan rubble limestone structure with distinctive round-headed windows, whilst a more substantial five-bay, two-storey outbuilding occupies the south-western corner of the complex. This larger building features both round-headed and square-headed openings, along with a segmental-headed carriage arch crafted with cut limestone voussoirs and keystone; clear evidence of skilled masonry work.
The boundary walls, constructed from rubble limestone, include a pointed arch pedestrian entrance with a cut limestone surround, adding another layer of architectural interest to the site. These various structures, recorded by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage, paint a picture of a working country estate that has evolved over centuries, from its medieval castle origins to its current form as a Georgian country house complete with its associated farm buildings and enclosures.
