This wedge-shaped stone cross-slab rises 78 centimetres from the ground, tapering from 45 centimetres wide at its base to 33 centimetres at the top, with a thickness of about 20 centimetres. Though unassuming in size, it represents the kind of religious monument that once dotted the Irish landscape, marking places of worship, burial sites, or boundaries of sacred ground.

The stone’s most distinctive feature is the cross carved into one of its faces, measuring 25 by 25 centimetres. Centuries of Irish weather have worn down the inscription considerably, but careful examination reveals intriguing details about its original design. The arms of the cross appear to have T-bar terminals, whilst the vertical shaft may have ended in triangular points; these decorative elements were common in early medieval Irish stone carving and helped distinguish different regional styles and periods of craftsmanship.

This cross-slab was documented as part of the comprehensive Archaeological Survey of County Donegal, compiled by Brian Lacey and his team in 1983. Their work catalogued field antiquities spanning from the Mesolithic period through to the 17th century, preserving crucial information about monuments like this one that might otherwise be overlooked. Such stones offer tangible connections to Ireland’s early Christian period, when communities expressed their faith through these enduring markers in the landscape.
