Earthwork, Mountshannon, Co. Clare

Near the eastern shore of Lough Derg, close to the County Clare village of Mountshannon, there is an earthwork recorded as a protected monument but largely unaccompanied by public documentation.

It sits in that peculiar administrative limbo that a surprising number of Irish archaeological sites occupy, officially recognised, formally classified, yet without any detailed account of what it is, who made it, or when.
