Enclosure, Sladoo, Co. Clare

Enclosures
Not every site recorded on the archaeological map turns out to be what it first appeared.
On slightly raised ground amid the level stony grassland of Sladoo in County Clare, there sits an earth and stone bank that was, for a time, considered a possible early enclosure, the kind of circular or oval boundary that might once have defined a farmstead, a ritual space, or a defended settlement in the early medieval period. It is, in the end, none of those things.
