Built into these entrance pillars are several punch-dressed stone blocks, likely rescued from the northwest and southwest corners of the old church that once stood here. Among these repurposed stones are two particularly intriguing window jamb fragments, complete with hood-mould stops that reveal the decorative ambitions of their original creators.

The artistry on these fragments offers a glimpse into the symbolic world of medieval stone carvers. The piece set into the northern gatepost features a fish caught in the act of biting the tapering point of an out-turned stop, whilst above it sits a rough but recognisable carving of a unicorn. Its companion in the southern gatepost displays what appears to be a stag, sculptured with similar care onto the end of another out-turned stop. Both fragments, with their matching moulding profiles that echo a piece preserved in the altar, most likely came from the ruined window that can still be traced in the church’s south wall.

The graveyard’s entrance reveals yet another piece of the architectural puzzle; a section of chamfered arch, probably taken from the church’s south doorway, now serves a humbler purpose as part of the stile on the north side of the gate. These scattered elements, carefully incorporated into the graveyard’s boundaries, transform what might be ordinary gateposts into an open-air museum of medieval stonework, each piece a tangible link to the religious life that once flourished at Templedouglas.
