This roughly rectangular earthwork measures about 45 metres north to south and 28 metres east to west, with its rounded corners still clearly defined by substantial earthen banks and ditches. The site’s defensive features include an internal bank that’s over six metres wide at its base, though it now stands just 1.3 metres high on its outer face. Between this and a lower external bank runs a broad, flat-bottomed fosse, or defensive ditch, that would have once provided formidable protection to whatever structure stood within.

Time and agriculture have taken their toll on this ancient fortification. The internal bank remains most intact along the southwestern and northeastern sections, whilst the southeastern portion has been almost entirely removed, replaced by a modern field boundary that follows the original line. The protective fosse has been largely filled in along the southern side, though its outer edge can still be traced at ground level by those who know what to look for. A modern break in the northeastern corner, complete with a small ramp, now provides access where the original medieval entrance has long since vanished.

Despite centuries of weathering and modification, the site retains much of its medieval character. The level interior, now clear of overgrowth, would have once contained the main buildings of this fortified homestead; likely a hall house and associated structures of a prosperous farming family. An annexe, recorded as a separate archaeological feature, sits immediately to the east, suggesting this was once part of a larger medieval complex that dominated this patch of Tipperary countryside.
