The site sits just northwest of an enclosure and appears on historical Ordnance Survey maps with varying depictions. The 1840 edition shows it as a simple narrow rectangular field, whilst the 1897 map reveals more detail; a rectangular area roughly 55 metres north to south and 35 metres east to west, enclosed by a bank with an external fosse running along its northern, eastern, and southern sides. A field boundary cuts through the western portion, running north to south.

Recent aerial photography from between 2005 and 2012, along with Google Earth images, shows the site as a rectangular field bounded by banks covered in scrub vegetation. Whilst initially considered as a potential moated site, archaeologists now doubt its antiquity. The structure likely dates from after 1700, representing agricultural field boundaries rather than a medieval defensive feature.

The site demonstrates how landscape features can be misidentified or reinterpreted over time. What appears on modern maps as a possible archaeological monument may simply be the remnants of more recent agricultural activity, a reminder that not every earthwork in the Irish countryside holds ancient secrets. The presence of the bank and fosse system, whilst suggestive of older fortifications, probably served practical farming purposes in the post-medieval period.
