At its heart lies a rectangular raised platform, roughly 13 metres north to south and 11 metres east to west, covered in grass and elevated above the surrounding terrain. This platform is encircled by an impressive defensive moat, technically known as a fosse, which measures between 12 and 13 metres across at the top and narrows to about 6 metres at its base. The moat reaches depths of 1.8 to 2 metres on the interior side, whilst the exterior depth ranges from 0.5 to 0.8 metres.

Beyond the moat, an outer earthen bank completes the defensive circuit, spanning 5.5 to 6 metres in width and rising between 0.2 and 0.5 metres above the surrounding ground level. The entire complex measures approximately 44 metres east to west and 42 metres north to south at its maximum extent. Several gaps punctuate the western side of the platform, with the northernmost opening measuring 2.2 metres wide and aligning with a corresponding 2-metre gap in the outer bank, suggesting this may have served as the original entrance, though no causeway across the moat survives today.

A later field drain, measuring 2.7 metres across at the top and 1.5 metres deep, cuts through the southern portion of the moat in an east-west direction. This drainage feature represents a more recent modification to the medieval earthwork, likely added to manage water levels in the surrounding agricultural land. The site was documented in the Archaeological Inventory of County Meath in 1987, with subsequent research updates added in 2007, 2022, and 2023.
