This medieval earthwork takes the form of a roughly rectangular enclosure, measuring approximately 43 metres from east to west and 25 metres north to south. A low earthen bank defines the perimeter, though time and agricultural activity have taken their toll; the southwestern section has been completely levelled, whilst other stretches show signs of disturbance. What appears to be an original entrance gap breaks the northern bank.

The enclosed area slopes gently towards the southwest and bears the faint marks of its agricultural past in the form of cultivation ridges running north to south across the interior. Within the southwestern quadrant, archaeologists have identified the remains of a house site, recorded separately in archaeological surveys. This domestic structure would have been the focal point of the medieval settlement, likely dating to the Anglo-Norman period when such moated sites were commonly constructed across the Irish midlands.

A curious semicircular annex extends from the eastern side of the main enclosure, itself defined by a low bank and internally divided by an east-west running earthwork. This additional space may have served various purposes; perhaps as a garden, livestock pen, or working area for the site’s medieval inhabitants. To the east of the entire complex, the natural topography forms a platform defined by a scarp, which may have influenced the original choice of location for this defensive homestead. Archaeological surveys conducted in the 1970s documented these features in detail, providing valuable insights into this example of medieval rural settlement in County Westmeath.
