The square earthwork, measuring roughly 26 metres north to south and 32 metres east to west internally, is enclosed by an earthen bank and a waterlogged outer ditch, or fosse. The defensive bank, which originally stood about a metre high on the exterior, has been reduced to a scarp along its northern, eastern, and southeastern sections. A stream runs immediately to the east and north of the site, providing natural defence on these sides and intersecting with the fosse, keeping it perpetually wet and boggy.

The monument shows its age and the effects of centuries of agricultural use. Cattle have damaged the northwestern and southeastern corners, creating gaps in the bank alongside other breaches at the west and southwest angles; no original entrance survives to tell us how medieval inhabitants accessed the site. The interior, following the natural slope of the land, is now overgrown with whitethorn bushes, making detailed archaeological examination challenging. The scarps overlooking the stream on the north and east sides remain particularly impressive, dropping approximately 2.5 metres and demonstrating the site’s defensive capabilities.

Surrounding fields preserve traces of ridge and furrow cultivation, with ridges about 2 metres wide visible to the south and west of the moated site. While these agricultural features likely date to the 19th century rather than the medieval period, they speak to the long history of farming in this upland landscape. Despite damage from livestock and vegetation growth, the monument remains largely intact, offering a glimpse into medieval settlement patterns in rural Tipperary, where such moated sites often marked the homes of Anglo-Norman settlers or prosperous Irish families during the 13th and 14th centuries.
