This sub-rectangular monument, measuring approximately 45 metres north to south and 74 metres east to west, sits directly adjacent to a moated site on its northern boundary. The site’s boundaries are clearly defined by an earthen scarp that runs along the northern, eastern and southern edges, standing about 0.7 metres high and 6 metres wide, whilst the western edge appears to have been marked by what may have been a leat or dried-up watercourse.

The defensive nature of this site becomes even clearer when examining its outer defences. An external fosse, essentially a defensive ditch measuring 11 metres wide and 1.2 metres deep, runs along the southern boundary and continues with visible traces along the eastern side. This ditch would have provided an additional layer of protection for whatever structures once stood within the enclosure, a common feature of medieval Irish defensive sites where such earthworks served both practical and symbolic purposes.

The interior of the site slopes gently downwards towards the north, following the natural contours of the land. To the northeast, additional earthworks may represent the levelled remains of a possible leat system; these artificial water channels were often used in medieval times for both defensive purposes and water management. Identified during fieldwork and compiled by Jean Farrelly in August 2011, this monument offers a tangible connection to the medieval landscape of South Tipperary, where such defensive earthworks once dotted the countryside as symbols of power and protection.
