This circular stone fortification once served as a defended homestead for a farming family, likely dating from somewhere between the 6th and 12th centuries. The surviving sections of its enclosing wall, which reach up to 0.8 metres in height, can still be traced in the eastern, southeastern, and western portions of the site, though centuries of agricultural activity have seen parts of the structure incorporated into more recent field boundaries.

What makes this particular cashel intriguing is the evidence of a house constructed within its protective walls. These ringforts were the standard rural dwelling sites across Ireland for much of the first millennium AD, housing extended families along with their livestock and stores. The choice of location, set amongst pasture dotted with natural rock outcrops, would have provided both defensive advantages and building materials for the original inhabitants.

Today, visitors to the site will need a keen eye to pick out the archaeological features from the surrounding landscape. The weathered stones blend naturally with the rocky terrain, and without the context provided by archaeological surveys, it would be easy to mistake these ancient walls for just another field boundary. The site was documented as part of the comprehensive Archaeological Survey of County Donegal, conducted in 1983, which catalogued field monuments from the Mesolithic period through to the 17th century, ensuring that even these modest ruins contribute to our understanding of how people lived and farmed in medieval Ireland.
