The site consists of a roughly circular enclosure measuring about 24 metres across, originally defined by an earthen bank that would have served as both a defensive barrier and a marker of territory. Today, only portions of this bank remain visible on the western, northern, and eastern sides, standing between 0.3 metres high on the interior and up to 1.5 metres on the exterior at its best-preserved sections.

The ringfort’s defences were enhanced by a fosse, or defensive ditch, that can still be traced along the northwest to northeast arc of the site. This ditch, approximately one metre wide, would have made the earthen banks even more formidable to potential attackers whilst also helping with drainage on the hillside location. Such ringforts, known locally as raths, were typically built between the early medieval period and the 12th century, serving as fortified farmsteads for prosperous families rather than military strongholds.

Unfortunately, the site shows signs of considerable disturbance over the centuries, with much of the southern portion of the bank now missing entirely. Despite this damage, the remaining earthworks still convey something of the settlement’s original form and the skill of its builders in adapting defensive architecture to challenging terrain. The ringfort was documented as part of the comprehensive Archaeological Survey of County Donegal in 1983, which catalogued field antiquities from the Mesolithic period through to the 17th century.
