What survives is modest: a spread of stones, a slight rise along the eastern edge, and a circular raised area roughly twenty metres across. It is not much to look at from the ground, but seen from above, in the right conditions, the site reveals rather more of itself.

A ringfort, or rath, is one of the most common monument types in the Irish landscape, an enclosed homestead of the early medieval period, typically defended by one or more earthen banks and ditches. This example at Wallstown appears on a 1935 Ordnance Survey six-inch map, marked as a hachured circular feature, the standard cartographic shorthand for a raised earthwork. More revealing still is what aerial photography has shown: a cropmark of a bank and an external fosse, the fosse being a defensive ditch dug around the outside of the enclosure. Cropmarks appear when buried or robbed-out features affect the growth of whatever crop is planted above them, producing variations in colour or height that are invisible at ground level but legible from the air. That the fosse shows up this way suggests the original earthworks have been substantially reduced by centuries of cultivation, leaving the underlying soil disturbance as the most coherent record of what once stood here.
