Standing stones are among the most common and least understood prehistoric features in the Irish landscape: single upright slabs, sometimes marking boundaries, sometimes graves, sometimes aligned to celestial events, and often defying any single explanation. This one, on the slopes above the Wicklow uplands, belongs to that large and intriguing category of monuments whose purpose remains genuinely open.
