Structure, Cahernabrock, Co. Mayo

In the townland of Cahernabrock in County Mayo, a structure sits on the archaeological record with little more than its location and a category to its name.

The place-name offers one quiet clue: "cahir" or "cathair" in Irish generally refers to a stone fort or enclosure, a type of monument common across the west of Ireland, where circular dry-stone walls once defined farmsteads, high-status residences, or defended settlements from the early medieval period and earlier. Whether the structure at Cahernabrock relates to that tradition, or represents something else entirely, is not yet publicly documented in any detail.
