The monument measures approximately 30 metres north to south and 36 metres east to west, enclosed by a substantial round-topped bank that rises over a metre and a half on its outer face. This defensive earthwork, though now planted with young deciduous trees and riddled with animal burrows, once formed a formidable barrier; its width varies between six and eight metres at the base.

The site’s most striking feature is its water-filled moat, or fosse, which runs around the perimeter with remarkable consistency. This flat-bottomed channel, still waterlogged after all these years, maintains a width of roughly three and a half metres and reaches depths of up to 1.6 metres. Beyond the moat lies a secondary defensive feature; a counter-scarp bank that would have provided an additional line of defence. The western side preserves evidence of the original causewayed entrance, a three-metre-wide crossing point that would have controlled access to whatever structures once stood within the enclosure.

What makes this particular site especially interesting is its sophisticated water management system. At the eastern end of the southern side, a narrow channel or leat connects the moat to a nearby stream that flows east to west along the site’s southern boundary. This five-metre-long waterway would have ensured a constant supply of fresh water to maintain the defensive moat, a practical engineering solution that speaks to the careful planning behind these medieval fortifications. A hedgerow now runs north to south along the eastern edge of the monument, marking the boundary between history and the modern agricultural landscape that surrounds it.
